“Business leaders revolt” | Greg Foreman

This is super interesting.

Especially the discussion with Real Estate Mogul, Grant Cardone and his reasons for shifting his big money away from New York City, in the light of the Trump verdict. It’s all about risk. And what Alvin Bragg, Latitia James and co, have done is to increase risk.

Of all the factors that Cardone mentions, he forgot the issue of squatting in New York City.

In New York if you leave your property vacant for a month, say you’re overseas on a holiday, people can come occupy it and cannot be evicted. We’ve seen infamous cases about this: a lady who had just inherited her parents home, took over a month to finalise probate, then found her home occupied by squatters. She called the police, but they were no help. It’s a tenancy issue, they said. She was then arrested for changing the front door locks to try to keep the squatters out. All the rights are with the squatters. Crazy stuff.

And now, you can get arrested on an expired 7-year old misdemeanour, that gets bootstrapped to a “felony” that is not defined until closing arguments (and not even then…). That worries the likes of Cardone and fellow investors.

Let’s not forget that the Rep for The Bronx, the inimitable AOC, stopped Amazon from setting up a facility in New York that would have created 5,000 jobs. That’s her greatest “achievement” for the city.
