“It’s all about chips” | David Dodwell

What in earth are we doing — “we” the West — putting 37% of our critical chips — chips that are used in everything— in Taiwan?? Did we really think that there was no risk from China? That was naive. Like believing that China joining the WTO would open it up and usher in world peace.

“We should avoid pushing China into a corner…”. Agree. But we should also avoid being naive about its intentions. Which are often inimical to the west, to democracy, to free markets, to freedom of speech, to all our enlightenment values. Which are, yes!, worth fighting for. Worth standing up for. Worth cherishing.
