Not enough people are saying (perhaps because they don’t know) that it simply doesn’t matter what you claim your collateral is when you apply for a bank loan. If you say your house is worth one dollar, or one million dollars or one gazillion dollars. It doesn’t matter (and is not fraud). Because no matter what you claim, the banks are going to send appraisers to your property and assign the value they believe it is. Then offer you the loan based on that.
This is what happened in the Trump case. He then paid back the loans. Everyone was happy and everyone remains happy. “No harm, no foul”, says Dershowitz. No one has been defrauded. Except AG Letitia James, self-defrauded by her own biases — “I’m going to Get Trump” — and her henchman judge Arthur Engoron self-defrauded by his biases, saying on the record Donald Trump is “just a bad guy”. Oh boy.
There are heaps of people who believe that Trump is a “just a bad guy”, I get that. What I don’t get is that these people see nothing wrong with a judge saying it out loud. That’s just crazy. A judge is supposed to be impartial. “Justice should not only be done, but be seen to be done”. This judge is just seen to be biased.
I don’t get how people don’t see this is harming the American judicial system. Not just at home but internationally as well. This is very harmful stuff. Engoron must be taken off the case. Even if you think Trump is Hitler. Who, to be clear, was not “just a bad guy”, but a Very. Bad. Guy.
