Like I said before: Green groups, especially Greenpeace, are responsible for our having more CO₂ in the atmosphere than we should -- because they demonised nuclear power from the 1960s. Until today. If we’d kept on building nuclear power plants, by now we would have net-zero electricity. Without a doubt. The reason we still use fossil-based electricity instead of clean energy is down to the Green lobby. Gotta give it to them, their powers of persuasion are formidable!

ADDED: Germany is the best example. They have shutdown perfectly functioning Nuclear power stations and had to open or reopen coal-fired plants as a result. Because they have not been able to make renewables plug the gap, for various reasons including intermittency and grid issues. At the same time they are shutting down fracking for gas, which gas is lower CO₂ than coal. Sheer, bloody-minded madness. Which I put down to the genius of that Mad Mutti Merkel.
