Hearing reports of journalists quitting local media, activists leaving Hong Kong, leaving social media. Some is self censorship. Some appears genuine fears the new law will trap them and it’s up to life in prison for some “crimes”.

(The new Hong Kong National Security Law was passed by China’s National People’s Congress on June 30, and foisted on HK via Appendix 3 of the Basic Law, given that HK had been unable to pass the law itself, as required under a article 23 of the Basic Law. The NSL is much tougher - some say “draconian” - than would have been the one local politician Regina Ip tried to pass in 2003. We have paid the price for being dilatory and pusillanimous).
