| Inner city streets in HK, safe day and night |
In Europe it’s Barcelona, a lovely city. that’s tops for pick-pocketing. We were there on business in 1999, and had our wallet stolen on the very first day.
A few years later in the US, we stopped at a gas station in South Chicago — I know - now - that’s not a good thing to do — to ask for directions and was promptly mugged. In those days they didn’t kill you, but these days you’re as likely to be popped even if you do hand over your money.
There’s plenty of safe places in the US, I know that. Friends living there says so. And our son is in LA. I’ve travelled there often. And would do again. Still, the crime figures are up. And people are worse off for it. It’s the top issue at mid term elections, according to some polls.
Elsewhere I’ve done the correlation between crime in the top cities and the party of the mayor. It’s local mayors and local DAs who most affect the crime rates. 85% of the top crime cities are run by Democrats, and often they’re “Defund the police” wing of the party. The crazy left side of the party. That 85% figure is statistically significant, as the top 100 cities in the US split approx 50/50 Dem/GOP. It’s no surprise then that the top issue in a recent Rasmussen poll, for US voters is crime.
Hong Kong is a super safe city. And as one grows older that becomes more and more important.
