Doonesbury’s lack of self awareness …

  • Garry Trudeau and the Dems see this avalanche of indictments of Trump as proof of his perfidy, his criminality
  • Republicans see the avalanche of indictments of Trump as proof of Democrats' perfidy, of their criminality (political attacks via lawfare).

What Ive only recently come to understand, or at least to believe: that Democrats -- big chunks of them, though I can’t really guess the number -- really, genuinely, honestly and deep down, do believe that Donald Trump is Hitler incarnate. And that therefore MAGA people, his strongest supporters, are Nazis. Really. They do. They fear Trump will lock people up in concentration camps. I’ve heard that said, and that they believe it.

It explains a lot.

It explains Sam Harris and his extraordinary revelations to the Triggernometry lads last year. That it didn’t matter if Hunter Biden had dead children in his basement. That didn’t matter as much as the urgency to stop Trump.

It explains Joe Biden’s speech last year in Philadelphia where he actually said that half the country (the half that voted for Trump) are “semi-Nazis”. The use of the world “semi” was just because he couldn’t quite -- at least not yet -- say outright that 150 million Americans are actual, real, Nazis. But they believe it. That’s what I believe. It’s not a game. It’s not a pretence.

Hence the need to stop Trump, no matter the means. He really, genuinely is an existential threat. He is the asteroid hurtling to the earth, per Harris. Per many Dems.

If one understands this about large chunks of the Democratic Party, then it all makes sense. The endless indictments, the endless attacks on Trump, on his loyalty, suggestions of treason, endless connections with Russia (despite Mueller and Durham). It all makes sense.

ADDED: Just came across this, along the same lines.

ADDED (ii): Get Trump. An analysis of the four main cases against Trump, three of which have already issued indictments, to date.
