For the record: Trump wins in Iowa, the first Caucus State

Online here

Trump 51%; DeSantis 21%; Haley 19%; Ramaswami 8%.

Many would have preferred DeSantis, but not to be. His record running Florida is sound and capable. He could run a country. But not to be. Or so it seems as of 17 January 24.

Haley I didn’t realise was such a strong “Deep Stater”, the military-industrial complex candidate. She makes me realise I’m basically a peace-nick. Didn’t support the 2003 Iraq war, or Afghanistan. There were better ways to hunt Osama bin Ladin than full-on war. And Ukraine? Do we really need to keep on keeping on? Supporting trench warfare? If you’re attacked by Hamas you have to hit back hard. But other incursions? Half or more since Vietnam were ill advised. But Nikki Haley supports them all.

I was disappointed in Ramaswamy’s poor performance, though I get why so many don’t like him. I thought he performed super well in the campaign trail. Others found his debating facility kind of slippery dicky. I just found it strong.

Despite 70% of Americans wanting candidates below the age of 70, it appears that’s not to be. Or so it seems as of 17 January 24. Still, Trump at 77 is fitter and a hundred times more active than me, three years his junior. Him on a diet of burgers and Coke. Go figure.

Look at the highlighted paragraph: it says “even after …” and cites support for Trump “even after” the litany of impeachments and charges against him.

Trump supporters would probably say “especially after…”. They see the impeachments and indictments as blatant Lawfare. Out to get a political opponent by any means fair or foul. Using the legal system. And they wouldn’t be wrong. So they support him “especially” after the Lawfare attacks. Many more Blacks support Trump now because they identity with being wrongly convicted.

Yet the Left appears incapable of grasping that perception. To them indictment equals conviction so Trump is already a criminal. How on earth could anyone support a convicted felon? Though, tbf, there are flashes of insight — the New York Times, for example, said the New York DA case on the Stormy Daniels hush money payment was “weak gruel”. Now the Georgia indictments are in trouble, because of corrupt shenanigans by Georgia DA, Fans Willis, as are those by Jack Smith, over January 6 Capitol riots (which, By the way, are not for “insurrection”).
