Taiwan elections: a mixed bag but ok for China (probably)


Today’s front page SCMP
Beijing preferred the Kuomintang (KMT), but that was never going to happen.

Beijing is wary of the DPP, who they consider "splittist", but can live with them, as they've done with previous DPP president Tsai Ing-wen.

DPP do lean independence, but so far have had the wit and wisdom to NOT call for independence, or, heaven forfend, declare independence.  

May William Lai show the same wisdom. For the sake of Taiwan, for the sake of our region, for the sake of our world. We do not want war.

The status quo will do just fine, thank you, dear William.
