Covid-19 virus update, 2 April

My spreadsheet from figures at Worldometer
Homing in on one million cases globally. 51 new in Hong Kong. T = 766. In DB now 4 cases, with one new at Coastline 48yo man, imported, case 764, hospitalised. HK: February retail down 44% and worse is expected. Stock markets are crap.
The ‘blame China’ bandwagon. While China tests vaccine
Hong Kong. Really thought to squeeze that number down to zero
As 250,000 have returned. From Worldometer
US highest daily deaths, mainly New York
Changing consumer behaviour
Hammering the WHO (my own view of WHO in this: they’ve had some unfair criticism — they’re not in China’s pay— but there are questions to answer —  not reporting early enough in human-to-human transmission, conflicting advice on closing of borders. Then again, everyone has got things wrong this pandemic. A proper reckoning won’t happen for years. And meantime America scapegoating the WHO and China is not on).
WHO: uncertainty about airborne transmission
ADDED (2 November 2022): my view of the WHO has grown much more jaundiced since I wrote the above. They failed in many areas, especially early on. And they were (and remain) too deferential to China.
