“A poor competitor” | Xin Wang on China-US in EVs

[“A poor competitor” is the print version of the headline].

China was given huge leg up by Bill Clinton... to join the WTO while remaining a "developing country" (which it stilll is).

Tesla Trailing Twelve Month sales to Q1, by itself, are 13% of total vehicles sold in 2023. Its Model 3 was the highest selling car, ICE or EV, in the world. And regained sales lead over BYD in Q1.

It is coming out with a lower priced car. But even at $50k vs $10k for China, that doesn't account for GDP per capita difference, which is 8x more for the US, making EVs relatively more affordable in the U.S. than the cheapest EV in China.

The Biden government may be lagging in roll out of charging stations, but Tesla rollout of its Supercharges is proceeding at 33% p.a. Tesla are the only ones that matter.

Teslas Full Self Driving Technology (Supervised) Version 12.3.3 is getting rave reviews from users. Tesla is miles in front of any other EV maker in FSD. They plan a Robotaxi roll out on 8/8 this year.

Tesla produces more EVs than all the other US makers combined. When talking about comparison between China and the U.S., youre talking about Tesla Vs China.  That it.

I haven't even mentioned Tesla's Optimus Robots. Or its storage business. Or its AI business.

In short, I don't see Tesla as snails in this race. By the way, Elon Musk was just on X and he praised the quality of Chinese EVs! No need to get all defensive, Xin Wang
