Anti-Mubarak protestors outside the Egyptian Embassy in London, 4 Feb. |
Look at the photo above and tell me what you think. What’s your main impression?
Mine is of Black. Black of the clothes, black of the signs. And black of the ideology behind it all, black, dark, negative. “Democracy will bring oppression”. Right. And “Arbeit macht frei”.
Some reports say that these demonstrators are Hizb ut-Tahrir.* That would be consistent with their signs calling for Sharia law and despising democracy. They wear black clothes, which is usually Shi’ite, whereas the Hizb is a Sunni outfit. Then again, they may be paying respect to the Abbasid caliphate, for they’re caliphate-friendly, these folk.
A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: 'There are approximately 300 people there, all cooperative and good-natured.'
If they take power, don’t expect that cooperation and good nature to last! “There is no fun in Islam”, as the Ayatollah Khomeni reminded us.**. In short, it is black.
