Cue outrage. At Hong Kong being “oppressed” by Beijing to do its bidding.

But, no. Foreign Affairs was and is always up to Beijing. No one (who knows) disputes this. If there’s a classic foreign affairs issue it’s a Russian sanctioned Superyacht in HK harbour. Beijing made it plain it did not support sanctions on Russia from the beginning of Russia invading Ukraine. So this is hardly surprising. And not (really) news.
