‘Young Dems more likely to despise the other party’ | Axios

This latest poll by Axios is interesting though I think the different ways Party faithful view the opposing Party has long been known. Republicans think Democrats are Wrong; Democrats think Republicans are Evil

Look at those figures! Nearly 40% of young Dems wouldn’t be friends with a Republican -- let alone date one -- whereas only 5% of young Republicans feel the same way.

You can read the above poll in one of two ways. Either as the young Republicans being more tolerant. Or else it’s young Democrats are correct in shunning young Republicans — because they’re just so horrid. You can guess which way Salon goes. Amanda Marcotte claims Republicans dehumanise people while she proceeds to dehumanise Republicans. Great.

This brings to mind one of the many things in the universe I just don’t get. Democrats spend a lot of time criticising authoritarian regimes, and rightly so. They’re one-party dictatorships, they brook no dissent, they have no free press, they arrest (or poison!) the opposition, and so on. This is a view which is, or should to be, bi-partisan.  But then — and this is the part I don’t get — they, Democrats, expend great effort trying to get rid of dissenting parties, the opposition (GOP) and shutting down dissenting voices (Fox) in their own country. The beacon of Democracy. Which would love the One Party State, as long as that one party was Democrat.

ADDED: the staunchly non-partisan Axios notes that the attitudes expressed by the young Democrats will lead to "more divisions in society". “Gee, d’ya think??
