Yes it’s true. Hatred of Trump trumps love of country. Trumps patriotism. Trumps the hope of destroying a clear and present threat from religious fanatics. 

I find it disturbing and disgusting. I remember how political differences used to be about tax rates and health policy. It used to be about policy and policy differences. Which were debated in the halls of Congress. Now it’s about hating Trump. It’s paid protesters on the streets. It’s regular violence. It’s open calls for the murder of Donald Trump. 

Victor Davis Hanson, calm professorial historian, ponders the questions. He talks of the hypocrisy of the Left over this war. If it were prosecuted by Obama, the media and the Left would be swooning and cheering it on. As they did with his bombing in Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya.

There is no doubt in my mind, in my following of politics in America, that big chunks of Democrats have become openly, even proudly, violent and anarchical. During the “mostly peaceful” No Kings protests last Saturday, I saw sprayed onto the walls of a Federal Building: “Kill your local ICE agent”, followed by the the Anarchist sign. Nothing was done. Nothing. 

Islam really DOES "hate our freedoms"

This was Question number one in the 3.5 hour (!) discussion between Coleman Hughes and Dave Smith some 5 months ago. 

Coleman agrees with Dave's opening claim that there's no truth to the idea that Osama bin Ladin and Al Qaeda attacked America on 911 because "They hate our freedoms". 

While I'm shaking my head: but it is true! 

And I have the proof. The writings of Osama bin Ladin himself. 

Look at this quote from bin Ladin: 

“For practically everything valued by the immoral West is condemned under Sharia law.”

Isn't that the very definition of hating the "immoral West" for its freedoms? Given that Freedom is our most cherished Value?

Bin Ladin's writings were collected and translated by Raymond Ibrahim in his book "The Al Qaeda Reader" (2002). Which I consider -- after my 20 years of reading and following the deeds and depredations of Islam -- to be a must-read for anyone trying to understand motives of the likes of ISIS, Al Qaeda, the Muslim Brotherhood, Jihadis in general and, yes, even the Iranian mullahs today. 

One of the few who does understand, who's not a Muslim, is Sam Harris. He has written well and trenchantly on the subject. EG: "What do Jihadists really want?", 26 August 2016. And the related post on ISIS.

Meanwhile, Dave Smith's belief that Jihadi Muslims are out to attack the west because of (or mainly because of) what he calls "terrestrial grievances", like the Israel-Palestine issue, colours every bit of his analyses, and destroys most of them. 

One way this belief ruins his analysis is that it's western-centric. The idea that if we we fix this or that, then all will be well. No. It's not true. 

We can do all the Jihadis demand, attend to all their grievances, pacify all their problems, and they will still want to kill us (unless we convert). Because that's Islam. That's what Islam demands. That's what the Koran demands. That's what Muhammad, o.b.o. his god, demands. 

I'm reposting below a piece I wrote here on 25 August 2009. I was responding to. BBC World Service radio program of that day. I talk a lot about Ibrahim and the writings of bin Ladin. 

I remember thinking that even if the BBC did nothing about my suggestion, I might educate some of its staffers in the editorial rooms. In this I have clearly had zero impact, for they are more Islamo-philic than ever.

Yet, as I re-read what I wrote 17 years ago, it's just as true today as it was then. It's been true since the birth of Islam 1,400 years ago: Submit or Die, infidel!

Elon and Jensen on the future of everything

Two of my heroes: Elon Musk and Jensen Huang, at a conference in Saudi Arabia. 

Here we have two genuine geniuses, two visionaries, giving us some ideas of where they see the world in ten or twenty years. I fear I won't be here to see if they're right or wrong, though I'm still hoping...

Now, I've never been a fan of Saudi Arabia. I think their government is horrid. The way they treat women, minorities, foreigners, non-Muslims, is horrid. They've been long run by the Wahhabi sect of Islam, one of the most extreme and horrid of a horrid religion. 

But... but... There's been some change at the top in recent years. They're no longer quite as horrid as they used to be. They've given women some rights. They kicked out the Muslim Brotherhood and have urged the west to do so as well. They're engaged with the west and want to become a part of growing with the future. 

This is far from a democracy. But it's a movement towards something better, less fundamentally Islamist, than it was. Surely we can support that. After all, how many other Islamic countries are moving in the direction of improvement? Answer: none. None, anyway, outside those who signed the Abraham Accords. 

We must not succumb, ever again, to ideas of "nation building", as did the W. Bush brigade and other "neocons" on the Right and the Left. We must give up the idea that we can instil "democracy" in middle eastern or south Asian states. 

But it would be smart of us, the west, to engage with those that are working to improvement. Surely that's something we ought to support. Rather than, like the Press, continue to slag Saudi because their secret police dismembered one of their members. Am I right?

And that's clearly what Elon and Jensen are doing. Following the lead of Donald Trump and his Abraham Accords.

Calling in short for the upending and the destruction of the Constitution: "Abolish the Senate. ... Pack the Court."

And calling for the military to commit treason against the elected president of the United States who is their Commander-in-Chief. "We Used to Think the Military Would Stand Up to Trump. We Were Wrong."

Meantime, I've heard that Karen Bass, that incompetent Mayor of LA -- who was swanning about in Ghana when the fierce firestorms hit her city, killed dozens and destroyed thousands of homes -- Karen Bass says she "will not abide by a Supreme Court decision" that confirms that ICE the power to enter LA in search of criminal illegal immigrants. 

Yet it's the Democrats who moan about Republicans being the threat to Democracy?!  Look in the mirror, Dear Dems.

I knew Greg Sheridan (above) from when I first met him in the 1980s, when I was in China and he accompanied some delegation or other. I was impressed with him then, and still am. He's a smart cookie. Peta Credlin is smart too.

Remembering and forgetting: June 4 vigils

China, as in Chinese, started forgetting June 4 decades ago. The result of a successful censorship by the government. Of that 36-year ago event.

I totally remember that actual June 4 1989. I was in Beijing just a few days before. And then a few days after. My Significant Other was herself in the Square on the day. We both remember it, so vividly. 

I thought it would never be forgotten. 

But it was. Quite quickly. After the riots and the violent suppression, I lived back in Australia for a while before being headhunted by the Australian government to run their Trade Office in Shanghai, then Beijing and then regionally out of Hong Kong. 

Those were crazy days, with few foreigners in China -- because of the sanctions against China -- and so heavy partying by those of us who happened to find ourselves in post-June 4 China. Like the days of old Shanghai. Of Austria before Adolf. Kinda crazy and in super fun way. For us foreigners, anyway. I recall 1990 as a Golden Year in life. And then squirm, for thinking that, while so many mothers were mourning their sons. Fathers their daughters. 

We had the June 4 memorials in Hong Kong over the years. But in China, I can attest by personal experience, just a few years after June 4th, when I travelled in China, and asked people about it, they didn't know. I mean, not that they were just saying they didn't know. They genuinely didn't know. They'd forgotten, even if they ever knew -- the CCP controlled the national media. 

In recent years there's been less and less June 4 remembering here in Hong Kong. Partly because of the National Security Law of 2020, after the ill-thought out protests and rioting to push for an "independent Hong Kong". And partly, I guess, for the passage of time. And I'm pretty sure that the rest of the west has forgotten too.

I find him bracingly good. Robust. I'm sure there are those who would find him rather too robust, would call him a bigot, or racist, or such. I've watched quite a bit of him now, and I really don't think so. I think he's just deeply knowledgeable about the Middle East, clear-eyed about his neighbours and clear-eyed about how strong Israel needs to be, to keep them at bay. 

And keeping them at bay seems to be the only option at the moment -- not because that's what Israel wants, but because the neighbours hate Israel and the Jews and wish to destroy them. The only way Israel can survive it to be strong and to be feared. As he says, it's a tough neighbourhood. Only strength is respected. 

But some are friends. Like the Druze. Dr Dan: "Israel is a state for Jews and Druze". 

And good thoughts -- radical centrist thoughts, radical common sense thoughts -- about Freedom, Democracy, Transparency, Progressivism.

That's the lesson of history for political systems. It's always, everywhere, about oligarchies and elites.

I watch CNN and see them get all hot under the collar that the government is being run by oligarchs. That's true. And was true of the Dems as well. For 'tis forever and everywhere true. For Dems and Reps and third parties. 

There is no such thing as a true democracy, never has been. When we've tried direct democracy, like at times in Greece, and at times via "Propositions" in California, the results have been disastrous. (Think of the two California Propositions: one demanding more government spending on such-and-such and the other refusing to raise taxes...). 

This from the book recommended to us by Marc Andreessen, early Silicon Valley investor, friend and fan of Elon Musk, all-round super-smart dude. He who knows whereof he speaks. 

The book is "The Machiavellians: Defenders of Freedom", by James Burnham. I find it a bit dense, so I have to go over it several times. But I'm finding it repays careful study and remains relevnt to today. Once you accept that it's all about oligarchies, either side, the Reps or the Dems, many things going on are clarified.

Anything which "insults" you. Or hurty words. Or nasty tweets. Or sarcastic memes.Or something which a politician doesn't like.  All these are now punishable in Germany. By stiff fine or jail time. 

Many on the right have commented on how exulted the 60 Minutes interviewer seems to be. Looks like she just loves what the Germans do to muzzle those horrid "far right" folks. Oh, how I wish we could do that here in the United States, she's thinking....

Germany is now the land of "you have free speech, but...". What Salman Rushdie has called the "but brigade". Free speech, but... is not free speech. 

Their idea of "democracy" in Germany is that you have elections to elect the proper people. Nice lefties. But if the electorate vote in "far right" parties like the AfD, then you have to annul the election. As they recently did in Romania for the same reason. Democracy is for me, but not for thee. Free Speech is for me, but not for thee. That's the concept of Democracy on the Left, there in Germany and in the United States of the Left. And why they lost their minds over the recent speech by JD Vance, to the Munich Security Conference, criticising Europe for losing some of the values shared on the West, like Free Speech. They didn't like that, not one little bit.

I've changed my mind on voting for Trump instead of voting for a Democrat. 

Reasons below:

An "anti-democracy Democratic Party" in the United States is a party which says it's keen on democracy, as does the Democratic Party, but which is not democratic. 

Like the Democratic Party of Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, and countless others in the Congress, like Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Shumer. 

And I'm anti that. So, anti the anti-democracy Democratic Party. That's me. 

I realise that a case has to be made. Many on the Left won't accept that they are, in fact, the anti-democracy party. 

I'll come to that. Which is also going to come to the conclusion of why I would vote Trump. Were I American. 

Hells bells I'm not American, but I can still vote in the US, from here overseas, as there's no voter ID required and no checking on my bogus address in the US.  Check out "I'm Australian but I just registered to vote in the US elections!"

But still. And backing up a bit. 

In my home of Australia, I'd always voted for the Labor Party of the soft(ish) left. I voted for Gough Whitlam, Bob Hawke, Paul Keating. If I'd been voting in the US in the past, I'd have voted for Bill Clinton, for Al Gore, for Barack Obama and for Hillary Clinton. "Why I hate Hillary, but...", of 6 November 2016, on why I would have held my nose and voted for Hillary. 

A pretty solid voting record on the Left. 

But then, in 2020, I would have voted for Trump. 

Why that?

For two reasons: 

1. Trump did a pretty good job. He got the border under control, he reduced crime, he kept inflation low, he increased working class wages for the first time in decades, including for Black Americans, and he kept the US out of foreign wars. Accomplishments of Trump's first term. @robbystarbuck.

2. Hillary Clinton never recognised the legitimacy of Trump's presidency. Not until today. In the process of finding excuses for her deplorable loss, she gave us the Russian Collusion hoax. Which I learned was a hoax by reading the Mueller Report. And then the Durham Report. 

That she and Barack Obama weaponised the FBI against a sitting  president I found deeply shocking. Wrong. Corrupt. 

Some on the left don't accept that it was a hoax. To them I don't know what to say. They were counting on the Mueller Report, staffed with 20 mostly Democratic lawyers, to find that Trump had colluded. When the report found -- unequivocally -- that he had not, they simply forgot about the Report and continued with their Russian Collusion. 

That's crazy, wrong, corrupt, and plain wrong. 

That major tentpole hoax was joined by others: the "Fine People hoax", the "drinking the bleach hoax". 

And now we have the Biden-Harris administration.  Which carried on the hoaxes:the "dictator from day one, hoax", the "Trump and Agenda 25 hoax", the "Trump will make abortion illegal at the federal level, hoax". There are others.  

The result of their four years has been a fourfold increase in illegal immigration; an increase in crime; an increase in the inflation rate; a softening of the economy; and two wars. 

Then I ask myself: which of these two parties, on the basis of their performance, been the best for the United States and the world. 

And my answer to myself; clearly the Trump administration has done better. 

I don't buy for one minute the idea that Trump is Hitler. That's just hysteria. His rallies have people of all races, creeds and religions. As in a recent post. Notably there are far more references to Israel and Jews at Trump rallies than there are at Kamala rallies. At Kamala's last rally there were people chanting "Intifada, intifada, world wide intifada" who were welcomed, while Jews were hassled. At Trump's MSG rally there were plenty of Israeli flags and none hassled. Also, Trump has Jewish kids and grandkids. If he's an anti-semite, a Hitler, he's pretty bad at it. 

I've still missed a huge lot of stuff that made me a Trump supporter instead of Harris. And which argue for this: that the Democratic Party of the United States is not a democratic party. The party defending democracy is not the Democrat, but the Republican. 

• The Lawfare against Trump. Which is recognised not just by experts on the Right, but also many on the Left, like CNN editor Fareed Zakaria who has said that the Alvin Bragg case against Trump would not have gone ahead if it had been anyone not named Trump. 
• Efforts to get Trump off the ballot before he even had a chance to campaign. 
• Flouting of the Constitution: failed effort to institute a national Covid vaccine mandate. Cancelling $US 1.7 Trillion in student debt, against the clear Constitutional requirement that such should be done only by an Act of Congress. 
• Plans to cancel the filibuster; stack the Supreme Court and creating of two more states which would give the Democratic party an unassailable majority in the Senate. 
• Deliberately opening the southern border to allow in tens of millions of illegal immigrants and then bussing them to swing states. This one sounds like a conspiracy theory, but is not. It's what the Democratic Party proudly claims it's doing; and it's what we see them doing. If this leads to unassailable Democratic majorities then the whole of the United States becomes like California: where crime in major cities is rampant and drug crime uncontrolled. 

Have I gone too far? Am I too crazy? Am I in a far-right bubble/ I don't think so, but if you do, Occasional Reader, do let me know your reasoning. 

For me, for now, the Democrats in the US are the ones that are a danger to democracy. Not the GOP. Thus do I hope for a Trump win next Tuesday.

Somali-born, forced into marriage with a much older man who abused her, forced to have FGM, she managed to escape, to Holland, team up with filmmaker Theo Van Gough (grand-nephew, iirc, of the painter) to make the movie “Fitna” about the mistreatment of women in Islam, which subject she knew from first hand experience. Theo was murdered by an Islamist nutter for his “blasphemy”. The murderer pinned a note to Theo’s body, with his knife. It said “To Ayaan: you’re next”. Ayaan fled to the U.K., then to the U.S. 

She married the famous popular historian Niall Ferguson along the way. And converted from atheism to Christianity.

She is a powerful, scrupulous, brave direct woman. From her blog, in response to the chaos unfolding in Britain:

Mass immigration 

This is a concern across the western world. By polling 70-90% of people in Europe, the UK, the U.S., say they want a limit to mass immigration, and especially illegal mass migration. The elites — politicians and the media — have ignored or mocked them. France voted to limit mass immigration, but instead, through Macron’s manipulations they ended up with communism. Britons wanted limits on mass immigration and got a Left-wing pro-more immigration Labour Party of Sir Keir Starmer.

Here’s a thought: it’s not so much mass immigration that’s the problem as the type of it. I don’t think Brits would be nearly so concerned if the immigration was from the Far East — China, Korea, Japan, Vietnam— or from Hindu India or Christian Bangladesh. Or from Nigerian atheists. Or Zoroastrian Iranians. Or pantheist Poles. 

But a lot of it — perhaps even most of it — is from Islamic countries. Large chunks of Muslim immigrants,  y all our experience and polling, don’t share many or any of western values. The ideology of Islam despises other religions and non-religious. It is homophobic, misogynist, sectarian, militarist, supremacist, and has been so since its founding by the warlord Muhammad. 

How can locals warm to immigrants who have bombed their buses, killed their young festival goers, knifed their veterans, decapitated their politicians? Seriously, how?

Big Brother Starmer

The British PM, Sir Keir Starmer, instead of taking these widespread concerns into account, not only ignores them, but threatens the messengers. His government just said: “Think before you post”.

Imagine that! Be careful what you say. Sir Keir has 3,000 stormtroopers combing the internet for “hate speech”. Basic ally anything Sir Keir doesn’t like. 

They’re threatening to arrest the famous best-selling author Douglas Murray, FFS!

Steven Edginton, the smart young investigative journalist, was nearly arrested. His crime? He reported in the failures and unpopularity of DEI policies in the British armed forces.  

And in the meantime Tulsi Gabbard over in the USA, has been put on a “Terror Watch List”!

Free Speech and our basic rights as citizens are being throttled and it’s not from the Right. In all cases it’s the Left parties that are going after their opponents with lawfare, lowfare and unfairfare.

Why?

The question is then: “why do politicians across the western world ignore the will of the majority of their people? Why?”

I don’t get it. And neither does the media, because they don’t ask the question. To them it’s self evident that more immigration is A Good Thing. If you question it’s you who’s the bigot.

I blame John Lennon. At least partly. Listen to the lyrics of “Imagine”:

Yes, it is easy to imagine it. In a perfect world, no borders, we travel where we want when we want, no countries: no passport needed. The freedom of mankind. As an atheist for nearly 70 years (!) I’d love to imagine “no religion too”.

But of course that’s not how the world works. Which fact is a stubborn thing. 

Religion is stronger than ever. The Fundamentalist religious are more numerous than ever. Big chunks of humanity believe in supernatural deities who tell them to hate those who don’t believe as they do, that women are worth only half a man, that minorities should be subdued and battled. That blasphemers and apostates must be killed. When big chunks of those big chunks come to the west their confident supremacist values overcome our own flaccid “tolerant” values— as we see from our own actual, real, in-front-of-our-eyes experience. But Starmer, Macron, Harris-Biden, Albanese (Australia) do not want to — will not — face that fact. 

And the world, humankind, is worse for it. A net decrease in civilisation, net increase in barbarism.

Once again, it’s choice. 

Vladimir Putin chose to jettison democracy, loot his country and repress his people.

Ian Birrell reviews Anne Applebaum’s eye-opening new book, “Autocracy Inc: Dictators Who Want to Run the World”. 

Applebaum, we recall, is a figure of the Left, not at all on the Right. She looks at the gaggle of countries, Russia, China, Iran, Venezuela, with dictators making choices to attack democracy and democracies, in the service of accumulating their own individual power and wealth.

His nation was seen as a prosperous beacon of stability, built on its great oil wealth, envied by many people elsewhere in the region. I remember the silliness of Penn and Corbyn at the time. I wondered, when it all fell to hell, were they going to admit they’d been wrong? Not a bit of it. Silence on Venezuela and Maduro, as on Russia, Iran and the rest of them… silence is their stern response.
