Germany “known for its calmness and rationality”. Right…

‘Germany “known for its calmness and rationality”. Right…’

I mean, sure, if we out certain things to one side. And even aside two word wars and a holocaust, there’s the 2015 Merkel statement “we can do this” to allow 1.5 million illegals to trip into Germany. Or — Merkel again — shutting down all of Germany’s nuclear power stations, so that now they’re having to reopen coal fired stations. Calm. Rational.

Note too: the mega-negative German views of China: 83% saying China is “an untrustworthy partner”.

Closing Confucius Institutions in Germany. When they were set up I hoped they’d just teach Chinese and Confucian philosophy. If they’d done that, all to the good. I’m a big fan, long time student of Chinese and the Confucian Analects, reading them in the original. But … not surprised to learn that the CCP had infiltrated them to extend their influence on overseas Chinese students, and to gather intelligence for China. Not surprised. Sad, but not surprised.

There’s reasons, in short, that the perceptions of China are so dramatically negative.
