TL;DR: the phenomenon is real, its cause probably both peer pressure (especially among young girls) and increased social acceptance of trans.
“Gender affirming” care, like puberty blockers and surgery have no hard proof of effectiveness. That’s why they’ve been stopped in Scandinavia and the UK. Or at least moratoriums until more data. That’s the logical way, surely.
