“Beijing loosens up further in major zero-Covid policy shift” | SCMP

Today’s front page, which is kind of historic, I guess. Maybe more notable because it was only a short while ago Xi Jinping told us that there would be “no deviation” from Zero-Covid policy. But here has been — indeed a “major zero-Covid policy shift” — probably a result of the countrywide demos recently. When just a few days ago Xi told the EU the demonstrators were just “frustrated students”. 

Everyone, outside China, has been saying Omicron is too transmissible and can’t be stopped even by draconian lockdowns. And so it has proven. Now, with relaxation, let’s see how it goes. And how China reacts. Hmm…
