“Authorities should crack down upon anti-China disrupters in Hong Kong in accordance with the law” says Deng Zhonghua ex deputy at the HK and Macao Affairs Office for Beijing’s apparatchiks.
That’s scary stuff right there. Given how broad and draconian are the provisions in the National Security Law. Who could be “disrupters”? Anyone? Me?
Also the stress on “patriotic”. Doesn’t take much for someone to be labelled “not patriotic”, a short step to “traitorous”.
This comes as just yesterday Xi Jinping was quoted as strongly supporting OC2S. So what’s going on?
TBF, this likely won’t affect us much. We hang out in our comfy middle class Discovery Bay and don’t interact hardly, with the legal system. But it’s not good for Hong Kong. Internationally a major plus point for HK is the independence of the judiciary and use of common law.
Things must be bad if even Beijing lackey Alex Lo is complaining.
