Classic, bloodied but unbowed. |
“Our democracy is at risk”, “Trump is an existential threat”, “He is Hitler”, “He is literally Hitler”, “He is worse than Hitler”, “He will put us all in concentration camps” (Rachel Maddow), “Worse than camps” (Joy Reid), “He will kill his enemies” (The View), “He is dangerous in words, deeds and action”, (NYT), “All MAGA voters are neo-Nazis” (Joe Biden … “But I’m a uniter”…), “We must put a bullseye on Trump” (Joe again),“Trump is the asteroid hurtling to earth” (Sam Harris). “He is an extinction level event”, “So it’s worth doing anything to stop him” (Sam, again, and again). “If Trump is elected, our democracy is over” (Biden campaign ad three days ago). “If Trump is elected it will be our last election” (Biden again. And lots of Dems).
Over and over and over. At all levels, in all media.
Such a threat. I mean, wouldn’t you have killed baby Hitler, if you knew how he’d turn out? If you really believe Trump is Hitler, you must kill him.
These are not fringe media. The New Republic, The Washington Post. Saying Trump is Hitler. A patent hallucination.
A shooting attempt was inevitable, no?
Shocking not surprising. (This is a Ben Shapiro vid, which I don’t often post because he’s often unbearable for lots of folks, but spot-on analysis with this one. Also: with Shapiro you get to see the rhetoric of both Left and Right, whereas on legacy media they’ll only show the “incendiary rhetoric” of the Right).
Happened at a Trump rally in Butler, PA. Just about two hours ago 18:14 ET, 13 July). The first such attempt since Ronald Reagan in 1980.
What we know so far (02:15 GMT), or what we think we know: Trump was shot at, one bullet hit his right ear, he’s OK and has already put out a statement saying he’s OK.The shooter is dead. So is one poor person at the rally, a spectator. And one other injured. There were 5-7 shots, fired, we think, by a rooftop sniper. Update: several shots from the shooter and the rest from Secret Service to kill the shooter. Apparently.
Biden has made a statement that violence “has no place” in politics and “we must unite”.
Trump left the stage on his feet and fist pumping.
The Secret Service is getting kudos for quick protective actions. Recalling here that a Dem member of Congress proposed a Bill that no candidate who is a “felon” should be given SS protection. Clearly with the aim that if something like this happened it would turn out far worse than it did.
As it was, the bullet that hit Trump was one inch from being fatal. (Correction: one centimetre).
Megyn Kelly has the most thorough take. I love that she gets incensed. Greg Foreman also gets incensed. Ben Shapiro: Shocking not surprising.
