Our new chief executive John Lee has been in charge for five days now and from what I can see of his and his colleagues' pronouncements, it's pretty much more of the same. Leaving ourselves at the whim of a mainland that doesn't really care about us, and a local Guangdong government that actively dislikes us and is quite happy to see us suffering.
Meantime it would be a snap to open to the world, but we won't do it because … Beijing. And our pusillanimous bureaucrats, who when asked to kowtow ask "how low?"
