Mongkok madness, beating bystanders …

Today's front page in the Post
So last night in Mongkok, we watch them trashing some shops and the MTR. Just another night in Hong Kong. The immediate cause last night? They’re upset that the government has introduced a ban on full face masks, similar to ones in the US and France.
It’s so sad and depressing to see black clad young “radicals” rhythmically smashing an MTR sign until it’s in pieces, they reach in pull out the wires to kill the lights. And we go down the steps into the station past the burning trash cans, water spilling down from the sprinklers, which are gushing straight out as they’ve knocked off the sprinkler heads. And so they go in, destroying our  cool infrastructure and somehow they feel good about it. And then they say, why is the MTR closed down?
And then we see them stop a taxi cause they don’t like what the driver has said, drive him out of the car, bash him, he staggers down the street and falls over. Just like the one the other night in Wanchai. No one helps him, Just take photos. And then back at the taxi, we see it’s been trashed. The man finally gets some first aid. At least they let the first responders through.
Smashing people who disagrees with you seems to be an American thing that’s been imported here. Just like the black bloc the Antifa wear.
The police? Nothing. They just stand in a group on Nathan Road, onetime major tourist haunt. I say to Jing they need to be in Flying Squads. Just a few in a squad ready to fly in to where some trashing is going on and arrest the vandals. We generally support the police, but they don’t seem to be very imaginative.
It’s all just too depressing for words. Nothing will satisfy them. Where will it end?
