Prompted by the fascinating discussion between US Ambassador to Israel, Mike Huckabee and Dave Rubin, recently posted. The ambassador talked about how much Israel had given to the US. Here's some more:

• Drip Irrigation - A water-saving system for crops, developed by Simcha Blass in the 1960s.
• PillCam - A swallowable camera for diagnosing digestive issues, invented by Given Imaging.
• USB Flash Drive - Portable data storage, invented by Dov Moran and M-Systems in 1999.
• Waze - A GPS navigation app with real-time traffic updates, created by Ehud Shabtai.
• Iron Dome - A missile defense system, developed by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems.
• ICQ - The first widely used instant messaging service, created by Mirabilis in 1996.
• Mobileye - Autonomous driving and car safety technology, founded by Amnon Shashua.
• ReWalk - A robotic exoskeleton for paraplegics, invented by Amit Goffer.
• Firewall Technology - The first commercial firewall, developed by Check Point Software in 1993.
• Cherry Tomato - A smaller, sweeter tomato variety, bred by Hebrew University researchers.

And, iPhone related: 

• Face ID Technology - The facial recognition system used in iPhones, based on 3D sensor technology from PrimeSense, acquired by Apple in 2013 for $350 million, and RealFace, acquired in 2017.
• Flash Storage Controllers - Anobit Technologies, acquired by Apple in 2012 for $390 million, developed high-performance controllers to optimize memory in iPhones and iPads.
• Apple Silicon Chips - Key components of Apple’s M2 and R1 chips, used in iPhones and other devices, were developed by Apple’s R&D center in Israel, which employs over 2,500 people.
• Camera Enhancements - Low-light mode and other camera technologies in iPhones were partially developed by Apple’s Israel R&D team, leveraging expertise in computer vision.
• Motion Sensors and AR Tools - PrimeSense’s 3D sensing technology, acquired by Apple, contributed to augmented reality features and motion sensors in iPhones.

And one that hits home: Stents for the heart. I have 9 of them (!), InStents, in the surrounding veins and arteries to my heart. I owe my life to them. To Israeli Jews, IOW.

Stents:
Israel has been a major innovator in medical stents, particularly coronary stents used to treat blocked arteries.

• InStent: Founded in Israel in 1990, InStent developed early coronary stents, including the Palmaz-Schatz stent, a pioneering balloon-expandable stent. It was acquired by Medtronic in 1998 for $200 million.
• Medinol: Established in 1992 by Dr. Jacob (Kobi) Richter, Medinol created the NIR stent, known for its flexibility and strength, widely used in cardiology. Medinol remains a global leader in stent technology, partnering with companies like Boston Scientific.
• InspireMD: This Israeli company developed the MGuard stent, which includes a mesh sleeve to trap debris during procedures, reducing complications. It’s used in heart attack treatments.
  Israel’s stent innovations have significantly advanced minimally invasive heart treatments, with companies like Medinol continuing to drive global advancements.

Consider: Israel, this tiny, tiny country, just ten million people, has the third largest number of companies listed on the tech-heavy Nasdaq index, after the United States and China. 

But to the anti-semites in Australia, the US, Europe, they're "just Jews, doing what Jews do, cause trouble in the world". I despise them for their ignorant hatred. "Them", sadly, including old, old friends. Schoolmates going back sixty years. Turned by the media, or their innate, till-now-hidden,Jew hatred. The world's oldest bigotry. They have it, most of the west, and all of the Islamic world. They're infected.

The above meme sent to me by an Israeli resident, not at all a fan of Bibi, so kudos for the integrity to give credit where it's due. 

Me, I've been a long-time supporter of Bibi. Loved him since his days in the United States in the 1970s, and his appearances on American TV.  And since. He's himself the Lion. The Lion of Judea. The Lion of Sumaria. The Lion of Israel. The Lion of the West. 

Iranians rising up against Islamic tyranny | Lily Moo and the Quad

I travelled in Iran back in 1975. When it was still ruled by the Shah, the Pahlavi dynasty. We drove a clapped-out Ford Anglia down the centre of this beautiful country to Isfahan, to visit our Aussie friends who were there teaching English. They introduced us to many of their friends and students. A happy, friendly, welcoming bunch.

And then, in 1979, I remember watching in fascination when the Shah was overthrown and the Ayatollah Khomeini returned from Parisian exile to rapturous crowds in Tehran. I was fascinated but not horrified. I knew not enough of the horrors of theocratic Islamists to be horrified. I’ve learned that since.

The Khomeinists, the Islamists, were supported by the Iranian Left. The same Red-Green alliance we have today in the demos for Hamas. The “free, free Palestine from the River to the Sea” crowd, the “Queers for Palestine” crowd, the same type of loonies as those who supported Khomeini and his thugs back in 1979. Their fate would ultimately be the same as those Leftists in Iran — executed in vast purges in the 1980s, led by the then head of the “Death Committee” Ebrahim Raisi, later president of Iran, and in 2024, the late President, killed in a helicopter "accident" in May 2024. 

Unlike Iraq, which had no leadership after the American invasion, Iran has the Shah’s family, his son,Reza Pahlavi, in the wings to take over. The Iranian monarchy is popular. They were modernists and  modernisers. Sure they had the hated Savak secret police, and sure they were awful.  But less awful than the Islamic theocracy. They too have their Savak, their own secret police. But they also publicly hang gays from cranes and beat women who don’t wear head coverings. The Middle East is “50 shades of Black”. Not goodies and baddies. There’s Bad and there’s Badder. And Baddest is the Ayatollas.

IOW, if Reza Pahlavi comes back, it’ll be one hell of a lot better for everyone in Iran, for the region and for the world. Immeasurably better. Even if not perfect. 

Iranian exiled dissident Lily Moo (~20:20):  The Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) have infiltrated all corners of the world: Africa, Europe, the U.S., (via the southern border these last four years).

“The Iranian people have been hostages in their own country for the last 46 years. Held hostage by a menacing, tumorous regime.”  It’s time for the Iranian people to rise up. And for western governments to put pressure on Iranian representatives everywhere.

Is Israel’s attack on Iran legal?

Short answer: “Yes”.

International law is different from domestic law. 

Think about it. 

In democracies a new law is drafted, discussed in committee, debated in parliament, amended and voted on by elected representatives of the people. When enacted, it can be challenged in court, go to appeal, and make case law. 

International law goes through none of that. Professor Avi Bell tells us something I didn’t know till now. That what we call international law originated as informal agreements amongst Christian countries in the early 20th century Europe. To the extent it’s been expanded, that’s happened via the United Nations, which is, today, a corrupted outfit. Think ICC and ICJ, both notoriously corrupt. 

Anyway, a lot to learn from this conversation. A bit nerdy, but you’ll feel smarter after it. And likely know more than your neighbour about international law. Such as it is. And such as it matters. Which professor Avi Bell says it doesn’t really, not in practice.

Note also the huuuge difference between the extent to which Israel does follow what there is of international law, vs the extent to which Iran and its proxies do not, in the least little bit. Yet the international “hate-on-Israel” community notes that not one jot.

Israel's "Operation Rising Lion": Roar! and Hip, Hip, Hurrah!

Israel attacks Iran. Hurray!

Israel taking out the Iranian terror nuke. And the terror leaders. The civilised world should celebrate.

This is history in front of our eyes. It's the reverse of what happened in 1979, which I remember well. The return of the Ayatollah Khomeini from his exile and protection in France, to Iran. To be welcomed, not just by the adoring crowds, but especially by the Left there. Which was promptly massacred by the new Islamic theocratic regime, because they'd served their purpose. The reality of the new regime I first read about in an amazing book, "The Stoning of Soraya M". 

And now we have the attack on that same brutal regime. I celebrate it. As do most Iranians themselves. And the sane west. If the regime tumbles we have a safer world. 

Arab nations are behind Israel as well. There's the Abraham Accords countries. Then Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon and Saudi Arabia. All are keen on Israel to take out the Shia Snakes in the grass, though they're not going to say so openly. 

What we have is the Sunni Arab world on the side of Israel, and the Shia Iranian (non-Arab) world on the other side, with support from other rogues, like Russia and China.

But, in the west, in the US, the Left won't celebrate for two simple reasons: 

1. Trump is in favour: anything Trump likes the Left must hate. 

2. Jews winning?? How dare they? Jews are supposed to trudge disconsolately to the ovens. What are they doing fighting for their existence and winning?! [This is the new, poisonous anti-semitism of the Left. These days more dangerous than that on the Right]

The Right -- some of the right -- is against "Operation Rising Lion" because of this: 

We've been hearing that "Iran is near to having a nuclear weapon for decades. What's so different now?"

IOW, a kind of "crying wolf" argument.

But the wolf is here. 

Here's a simplified timeline of Iran's move to get the Bomb. Which sets out what is "so different right now: 

• 1979: Islamic Revolution; Iran's nuclear program, started under the Shah, continues but faces disruptions.
• 1980s: Iran restarts nuclear research, focusing on uranium enrichment, amid Iran-Iraq War; program secretive.
• 1990s: Iran acquires centrifuge technology from Pakistan’s A.Q. Khan network; begins covert enrichment.
• 2002: Exile group reveals secret nuclear sites at Natanz and Arak, raising global concerns.
• 2003-2005: Iran negotiates with EU-3 (UK, France, Germany); temporarily suspends enrichment but resumes later.
• 2006-2010: UN imposes sanctions; Iran expands enrichment, builds Fordow facility; Stuxnet cyberattack disrupts centrifuges.
• 2011-2013: Tensions rise; Iran increases uranium stockpile; US and Israel consider military strikes.
• 2015: Iran signs JCPOA (nuclear deal) with P5+1 (US, UK, France, China, Russia, Germany), limiting nuclear program for sanctions relief. Iran breaches the agreement from day 1.
• 2018: US withdraws from JCPOA, reimposes sanctions; Iran gradually reduces compliance.
• 2019-2021: Iran ramps up enrichment, reaches 60% purity, nears weapons-grade; talks to revive JCPOA stall.
• 2022-2025: Iran continues advancing nuclear capabilities; no breakthrough in negotiations; IAEA reports growing stockpile of enriched uranium.

Iran has not officially produced a nuclear weapon, but its enriched uranium stockpile and technical advancements show that the "breakout time" is now just a few weeks.

Not case of crying wolf. But a case of warning about the wolf for a long time, until it became too present a danger to let it continue.

Kinda like Winston Churchill warning about the threat of Germany's rearmament, which he began doing in 1932. So that by 1938 people were saying "Ok, Winnie, we get it. The Germans are rearming. They're always rearming, according to you. So what else is new?"

You can keep warning about these threats, until suddenly they're there. It's not that your persistent warnings mean that the threat you warn about is not real.

Even the IAEA -- hardly a stooge of the US or or Israel -- found Iran in breach just 4 days ago:

June 12, 2025 IAEA Board Resolution: The IAEA Board of Governors formally declared Iran in breach of its non-proliferation obligations for the first time in nearly 20 years, citing Iran’s lack of cooperation since 2019, including failure to clarify undeclared nuclear activities and materials. The resolution passed with 19 votes in favor, three against (Russia, China, Burkina Faso), and 11 abstentions.

[Side note: Trust China, these days, to be on the wrong side. To be on the side of the baddies. When they used to be on the side of the goodies, as in WW1 and WW2].
