President Biden

Bret and Heather discuss “Electile Dysfuntion

Interesting discussion on “influence peddling” and...
It’s the Old Crime Family ousting the New Crime Family
The 46th president of the United States. President pandemic. He just took Pennsylvania which got him over the line, when Trump had been leading by 700,000 plus on voting day, all cause of mail-in votes.

Given the importance of postal votes to this election it was campaign malpractice for Trump to tell his supporters to ignore voting by mail, instead of encouraging them to mail in as quick as possible. Just one of his many tactical blunders. He was blinded by the fixation on mail-in being fraudulent. There are cases for sure. But it was always going to happen. So get with it, not agin’ it. Too late. He wouldn’t change anyway. Yet another of his flaws, not listening to people. We know his campaign was urging him: please don’t tell people not to vote by mail!

Biden didn’t win because of himself. Had there been no Covid, he would have lost, so say every credible poll and commenter. Count that as another Trump failure — failure to be presidential and lead the country. Trump made fun of “being presidential” — there’s some hilarious stuff in video at his rallies — but it turns out “being presidential”, looking presidential, is important, especially in a crisis. Trump flubbed it. I’m not being Captain Hindsight here - I said so at the time. The irony is that he actually did better on Covid than it appears, but failed at being presidential. While New York governor Andrew Cuomo failed at doing stuff about Covid, but succeeded at looking presidential.

Few demos on the streets. We can imagine if it had gone the other way. Given what happened in 2016, the “resistance” and all and now Antifa and BLM on standby, a tight Trump victory would have been mayhem in the streets.

So we get to see how president Harris Biden does. The Squad have already started with the narrative that the reason for the Dems’ big losses in the House is because they weren’t far enough to the Left, not that they were too far.

I guess the next bet will be on how long before Kamala takes over.

PS: I maintain my sound record of calling the election wrong. As I left it in election night, I had the margins in various states and guessing that the postal votes would kind of reflect the ballot box votes, gave it to Trump with 280 electoral votes. Turns out the polls were right on this if not much else — that the postal would skew heavily Biden. But look at the pollsters’ failures on Florida and Texas! Both were to go Biden, but Trump won handily. And then the huge Democratic losses in the House…

Oh well… life goes on.… Here in our Discovery Bay eyrie.
