“Putin’s power in Russia is surging”

I don't know if this is true, though seems likely, in a place where the press is muzzled and only able to say what's approved. Which Clint Erlich explains in the thread.

ADDED: back in 1937 young Russians supported Stalin as he slaughtered thousands of their countrymen. Here. They were, according to contemporary reports, “…solidly behind the Stalin government and utterly out of sympathy with the malcontents”. Today, those “malcontents” would be the few brave folk demonstrating against the war. I fear that any hope we might have of popular revolt is vain.
